Marriage registration

In India Hindu marriages have to be legally registered under Section 8 of Hindu Marriage Act. After the marriage is solemnised, the parties must register the marriage in order to prove the validity of marriage through written proof. Unregistered marriages are not considered null and void, but instead are subject to fine of Rs 25/-. The main goal of marriage registration is to keep a record of the marriage.

Court Marriage

The marriage has to be registered by the Sub Divisional Magistrate under whose jurisdiction the marriage took place. The marriage certificate is given to the parties after the registration of the marriage.
